The Dharma: "Forced Induction."
The 10th Generation Civic (2017–2020) was the most ambitious engineering project in Honda’s history. The goal was to build a single "Global Platform" that could support everything from a basic commuter to the track-weapon Type R.
The result was a chassis that was exponentially stiffer than the Gen 9. However, the design language was divisive. With massive faux vents and sharp angles, it earned the nickname "Gundam Style." It shouted its existence, whereas your FE1 whispers.
"The Adaptive Era"
The defining feature of the Gen 10 Si was the introduction of active electronics into the suspension logic.
ADS (Adaptive Damper System): For the first time, the Si featured electronically controlled shock absorbers.
Normal Mode: Compliant and comfortable for highway cruising.
Sport Mode: Solenoids inside the dampers restricted oil flow, instantly stiffening the ride for flat cornering.
The Control Arms: The Gen 10 utilized massive fluid-filled compliance bushings. While comfortable, they introduced "slop" in the steering—something the FE1 corrected by using the solid bushings from the Type R.
"The Forced Induction"
Engine Code: L15B7 Type: 1.5-Liter Turbocharged Inline-4 Displacement: 1498cc
The scream was gone. The "VTEC kick" was gone. In their place was the "Whoosh."
The Turbo: A Mitsubishi TD03 turbocharger provided 20.3 psi of boost.
The Torque Curve: This was the paradigm shift. Instead of waiting for 6,000 RPM, you had peak torque (192 lb-ft) available at just 2,100 RPM.
The Controversy: The engine technically had VTC (Variable Timing Control) on both cams, but VTEC (Variable Valve Lift) was only present on the exhaust side to spool the turbo. The intake side lost VTEC entirely. Purists mourned.
"The Rev Hang"
The 6-Speed Manual was physically excellent but plagued by software logic.
Rev Hang: To meet emissions standards, the ECU held the throttle open slightly after you lifted your foot. This meant the RPMs didn't drop instantly, making smooth fast shifting difficult.
Dual-Mass Flywheel: A heavy flywheel damped vibrations but added rotational inertia, contributing to the sluggish RPM drop. (Your FE1 fixes this with a Single-Mass Flywheel).
The "HDMI" Exhaust: A central exhaust tip shaped like an HDMI port became the visual signature of the generation.
"The Extinction Event"
The Gen 10 Coupe (FC3) holds a somber title: The Last Civic Coupe.
Sales Data: As market trends shifted toward crossovers and 4-door sedans, the demand for 2-door coupes vanished. Honda killed the body style after 2020.
Legacy: The FC3 is the final two-door Civic Si, making it a future classic for those who value style over practicality.
