Mindfulness in Motion. Presence in Every Gear.
2026 11th Gen Civic Si (FE1)
Dōshin (道心) translates to "The Way of the Heart." It is the spirit of the Way-Seeking Mind, a mind that sincerely seeks the truth of the present moment, unburdened by distraction.
In my professional life, I organize data to find logic. In this garage, I organize components to find balance. This project is a physical manifestation of that search. In a culture obsessed with speed and vanity, this build focuses on presence. We approach this machine not just as owners, but as stewards, applying the Way of the Heart to every bolt turned and every mile driven.
It is not about reaching the destination faster; it is about the quality of the journey.
I exist professionally in a world of abstraction—managing data pipelines, optimizing SQL queries, and architecting logic in the cloud. But the Way-Seeking Mind requires an anchor in the physical world.
The Civic Si is that anchor. It is an analogue machine in a digital age. The manual transmission creates a closed loop of intention and action: clutch, gear, throttle, steering. It demands total awareness.
This site documents the application of the Eightfold Path to the FE1 chassis:
Right View: Precision. Verifying data accuracy and part compatibility (FE1 Only) before acting.
Right Intention: Restraint. Choosing functional, OEM+ modifications over vanity or ego-driven excess.
Right Speech: Transparency. Clear documentation of failures as well as successes, and honest disclosure of affiliate relationships.
Right Action: Integrity. Adhering to torque specifications and safety standards; doing the work correctly even when no one is watching.
Right Livelihood: Authenticity. Sourcing genuine components to support original engineering rather than funding counterfeit marketplaces.
Right Effort: Consistency. The unglamorous discipline of regular fluids, filters, and washes to preserve the asset.
Right Mindfulness: Presence. Utilizing the manual transmission to drive with a mind that is fully awake.
Right Concentration: Flow. Achieving the state where the distinction between driver, machine, and road dissolves.
My previous path was defined by the rugged utility of a Jeep Wrangler. But in Zen, we accept that all things are impermanent.
The catastrophic failure of both engine and transmission in the Jeep was not an obstacle, but a redirection. It served as a final lesson in impermanence. Rather than fighting to resurrect the past, I accepted the conclusion. This mechanical limit forced a necessary pivot, away from the chaotic and heavy, toward the precise and disciplined.
The FE1 platform is not just a replacement, it is the new practice.
The path is currently in the Planning Phase. The vehicle is awaiting delivery from manufacturing. This site currently serves as a staging environment for the build to come.
